PC Users - Please Checkout PC Installer

We need PC users to checkout out the installer that Iain has pulled together and report back their findings. You can download the installer from
here.
IMPORTANT: We need to know if the installer works with the Matrix PC version.
My base version is Slitherine CEaW v1.00 upgraded to CEaW v1.12. This is the version that I installed over.
1. I verified that the installed version started up and created and stored settings, scenarios and game turns in the
/My Documents/CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0 folder. If like me you already had this folder from beta testing then you can rename it to something like
CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0 SV, startup GS v2.00 after the install and move your game turns to the newly created folder.
2. I verified that the user's manual is the latest one dated May 11, 2001.
3. I did a difference between the files in the installed version versus the files in my development version GSv2.00.11 and found NO unexpected differences in data, graphics and class files.
4. I verified that turns played as expected (I played two turns).

You need to remove the scenario files ending with ai like 1939ai.scn. Try then.

That seemed to do it. What version should show on the start up screen? I see CEAW 1.12 GS 2.00

Where did the 'ai' files come from?

I don't know where these files came from. I've not made them.

That's from GSv1.06. Did you install over the top of that version?

I just let it install where it wanted. 106 would have been somewhere. the files do look garbled (as in many different folders and such)...if I have time maybe I will uninstall everything and reinstall.
Cumbersome Install for matrix users

My base version is Matrix CEaW v1.06 upgraded to CEaW v1.12. This is the version that I installed over.
1. During the install I changed the install location from;C:\Program Files\Slitherine\Military History Commander - Europe at War GOLD to C:\Matrix Games\CEAW_GS200i.
2. After Install, I went in and ran commander.exe, and it launched CEaW 1.12
3. I then went into the folder; C:\Matrix Games\CEAW_GS200i\Grand Strategy Mod and ran commander.exe and got the same result.
4. Finally, I ran the shortcut Play Commander - Europe at War Gold Grand Strategy, and it setup Grand Strategy 2.0.
5. Next, I just ran Sithlaunch.exe, and it ran 2.0 after asking for my settings, again.
6. I did verify that the installed version created and stored settings, scenarios and game turns in the /My Documents/CEAW Grand Strategy 2.0 folder.
7. Is there a simpler way to launch CEaW without running Sithlaunch.exe? With the manual install, I would just load commander.exe.
8. I can play stored games using the Sithlaunch.exe.

Jay, that's great news if I understand you correctly. That is, the GSv2.00 installer produces an install that works with the Matrix version?
Also, check your email inbox.

Yes! Thank you. After a short DOS CMD window, Grand Strategy 2.0 opens! (I guess we need to let the matrix folks have this process as well).

The installer worked beautifully, over top of version 1.12 which had been
freshly installed from a Military History disc version of the game, from Slitherine.
But I still have the same display problem which I saw last summer, when I replaced my old XP box with a Win 7 one. Apparently
related to some Windows 7 issue, so I am told.
What happens is that my desktop display is set for 1280 x 1024, at 60 hz.
But when you press the "menu" button on the monitor, it says my resolution
is 59.9 hz. The consequence of that is that my game window for CEAW-GS
looks like a wide screen display; that is to say that it fills the screen
horizontally, but there are narrow black bars of unused screen top and
bottom.
Last year, I was told that the fix was to set my resolution for 61 hz, which indeed seems
to sort of work---at least, to the extent that my monitor says it is now displaying
at 60.7 hz. But when I start the game in this mode, it errors out by
telling me it cannot display 1024 x 768. That is very strange, because I am
in fact set to 1280 x 1024, although now at 60.7 hz. The game does start,
but in a window that only uses about half of the available screen space, too
small to be of use.
So the lesser of two evils seems to be to leave things as originally
setup---that is, resolution on the desktop says it is 60 hz at 1280 x 1024,
although the monitor is telling me it is 1280 x 1024 at 59.9 hz.
The game is playable this way, but it is very odd to have these two bars at
the top and bottom.
And yes, my drivers are up to date.
Anyone else seen this problem, and if so, do you have an easy fix?

Do you have an Nvidia or ATI graphics card. You need to set your frequency to 60 hz.

It is NVIDIA. To clarify: the frequency IS set at 60 through the NVIDIA controls. But when I press the "menu" button on my monitor, it tells me it is displaying at 59.9 hz. So, I then set the NVIDIA control to the 61 hz. When I check the monitor menu again, it says is displaying at 60.7 hz.
Either way, it is a problem. When set at 60 through my NVIDIA controls, I get a display of CEAW which uses full width of monitor, but leaves a dark strip about 1 inch wide at top and bottom. Even worse when set at 61---game says it doesn't support 1024 x 768. Why it says this is beyond me---my display is set at 1280 x 1024. When the game launches, it is now only about 1/3 of the screen.
I don't have this problem with any other games or indeed with any software at all.
EDIT: Fixed the problem!

Frequency set to 60.001 hz on NVIDIA control results in a 60.2 hz rate on the monitor, which makes the monitor very happy apparently. So now CEAW displays full screen properly.
Thanks for your help.
