New Player First impressions

A week after signing up (that felt like months??¦) I now have the rules to examine.
As requested ??“ first impressions ??¦

There is quite a lot trailed on the public board now, and nothing in the rules was really unexpected. I am slightly concerned about the long term playability ??“ there does not seem to be much scope for the subtle twiddling that makes DBM such a challenge.
I have to admit that the movement rules don??™t do anything for me ??“ you can move your units, and sometimes you can??™t move them how you want. A little too close to warhammer for my liking, but until I get an army out and play with it ??“ the movement rules are fairly meaningless.
The combat stuff is the bit I can do in my head, and I like it ??“ a lot. Pretty much all the interactions that I can think off feel about right when I tot up results(though I would like HYW longbows to be better than average). Toting up the results ??“ again a lot like warhammer ??“ I can work out success chances pretty quickly without having to resort to fingers ??“ which means I can be sad and geeky and work out fights in my head when I am supposed to be doing something more useful 

Problems ??“ finding points values for foot ??“ I sort of assumed that LF and MF would be different points to HF - and couldn??™t find the points values (doh)

P40 there is a comment about everyone shooting at unprotected cav at ++, but this is not supported by the table.

P44 1 dice per 2 bases if 2nd shooting rank or outside effective range.
So a 2 by 4 block of bow at long range. Is that 4 dice (2 for 4 front rank, 2 for 4 rear rank) or 3 dice (2 for 4 front rand, 1 fro 4 rear rank)

Overlap ??“cant find how it comes into play. I think I may understand it, but im not sure and have been hunting through the pile of paper I now have in front of me for something definite.

Page 48, third bullet, and reference the table. Also page 94 of the glossary.

yup, found that
but what does an overlap do?
p48 and 94 tell you what an overlap is - but i cant find where it says what an overlap does.

Ah. The key is in the table 'Melee phase dice', and the entry for overlaps: 'As above'. In ther words, elements in overlap positions get melee phase dice (i.e. fight) just as if they were actually in contact.

Note that overlaps do not count in the impact phase.

Fights as dice in the Melee phase only - but not at Impact which represents the initial crunch. CHeck out the melee section and the example combat where the Gauls have overlapsin the melee phase but not imapct. Diags are being developed at the moment, which will help.

4 at long range, (6 at close range.)
