Do you worry that sometimes you might just have too much time on your hands?

No, I worry about suicidal umpires.

It's not surprising when you consider some of the ludicrous things that players ask. 2 favourites of mine:

1) Two people who had been playing for over an hour asked me to adjudicate whether a piece of green carpet represented a wood or a hill.

2) Somebody asked for a ruling based on where things had been 10 minutes before they called me.

My favorite was when a pair of players decided to play a match from an ongoing campaign rather than their tournament armies because they were running out of time to get their campaign moves in. No problem. The round was forfieted, but one guy still came in 2nd overall.

It is very tough to ask people to give up their social have fun gaming time to not play.

This is more so the case when you have unde 12 attendees and possibly an odd number.
