Hi All,
I am collecting a Lancastrian force, in 28mm plastics.
I am thinking of Starting with this:
1xFC,2xTC
2BG 4xMenAtArms - HF, HA/Superior/Drilled/HW
1BG 6xRetinue Billmen - HF, Arm/Ave/drilled/HW
3BG 6xRetinue Bowmen MF, Prot/Ave/driller/Longbow/sword
1BG 6xMercenary crossbows MF, Prot/Ave/Drilled/Crossbow
1BG 6Welsh Spears MF, Unprot/Ave/Undrilled/Offensive spears.
That comes to 548 points. What should I get for the extra 100 points?

In 28mm stakes should be considered
A LF unit for bulk and difficult terrain.
More Billmen. More Bowmen consider 8s.
I would drop the FC to a TC. Consider a 4th TC.
I'm not a fan of the Welsh or mercenaries. I forget the size requirements can't the XB be a 4 base BG? THat allows it to provide rear support.
In 28mm your are likely to encounter more HF and more KN which should guid your thinking.

FC are more useful for battle line moves in 25mm. So it may be needed depending on how you wish to manouver

Ooooooooh! Congrats on the promotion to general, even if it's a Frenchie general.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The XB can be in 4's, so I will take that up. I don't intend to use this as a competition army, so at the moment it's likely opponents are Yorkist and Welsh. The stakes are therefore of limited use (unless another friend can be persuaded to get some despicable French types!
So how does this look?
3xTC
2BG 6xMenAtArms - HF, HA/Superior/Drilled/HW
1BG 4xMenAtArms - HF, HA/Superior/Drilled/HW
2BG 8xRetinue Bowmen MF, Prot/Ave/driller/Longbow/sword
1BG 6xRetinue Bowmen MF, Prot/Ave/driller/Longbow/sword
2BG 4xMercenary crossbows MF, Prot/Ave/Drilled/Crossbow
1BG 8 Irish Kerns LF, Unprot/Ave/Undrilled/Javelin/Light spears.
It is only 9 BG, and only experience will tell me if an army this small needs either an FC or 4th TC.
Thanks for input.

Looks like Phil's gone from guarding the tent to being in the tent.

I'm considering the same thing (English Longbow army in 28mm plastics). Have you considered the "Free Company"? Gives you some decent mounted options too!

I did not consider the Free Company, as I particularly wanted to do WOTR, and one of my friends is collecting a Yorkist force.

As a Lancaster Faction, you can take the Northern Light Horse as well as the Currours to give you a mounted option. Granted to bring the Northern Light Horse you also have to bring Northern Border Spear.

Why do you want to get mounted in the list by all means?
Bitesyurr seems to be a player who chose his army because of the background and not because he wants to win tournaments. A very likeable attitude by the way.
He wants to play WotR and that's a foot army, so please leave it a foot army!

8 bases of mounted do not destory the WOTR or change it from a a foot army.
The challenge is do they actually enhance the army.
The 4 base LH versus another WOTR is a liablity unless you can get it aroudn a flank to raid baggage.
The Border Spear are helpful rear support to the longbow and when that archery dual begins having a +1 on the CT could be very helpful.
The Curours are sort of in between. They can be rear support. They are a real threat to a flank. If part of a combined arms attack can be useful. But could also dissipate under archery fire.
The question is really in a slogging match which fundamentally the match up will be, are these benefits outweighed by losing a unit in the batteline.

Initially it will be a foot army. Once I have painted the basic force, then I will look at adding a couple of extra BG's of mounted troops - but they will be the last things to collect.
Thanks for the comments though - it all helps - and with my painting speed it will be a while before I get there!

The 2 base BG of superior knights is worth looking at - they're drilled so you can use them as a reserve or to attack a weak point. You could change your list to have 3 BGs of 4 foot men-at-arms, instead of 2x6, and drop the 4 base unit and use the same points for the knights.
As pointed out, the northern border spear (in 4s) make good rear-supports for the longbowmen, freeing the foot men-at-arms to fight elsewhere. But at 650AP it might be hard to fit them in.
BTW, the WotR list is one of the few lists where you can have only 2 sub-generals. If you want a fourth TC, he must be allied.
