Understanding the Combat Log

Especially with regards to suppression.

I see this picture:

I read it as:
You win initiative.
You kill 4 units.
You suppress 3 units.
Then your enemy returns fire.
7 units fire.
They kill three units.
They suppress one.

10 base strength, minus 3 you suppressed = 7 can return fire.

I see this picture:

I read it as:
You win initiative.

You suppress 4 units.
Then your enemy returns fire.
6 units fire.
They kill one unit.
They suppress zero.

10 base strength, minus 4 you suppressed = 6 can return fire.

10 base strength, minus 3 you suppressed = 4 can return fire?

But this last example confuses me. I can't explain it, can someone else?
The only thing I can think of is: Because my kill+suppression=total enemy strength and the enemy is forced to retreat, the effectiveness of my suppression is doubled. I actually suppressed 3, but because kill+suppression=total strength and forced a retreat, my 3 has been doubled to 6, thus only 4 units have returned fire.

While we're talking about it though, this picture could use an explanation too.

I have the replay below(00064.pzlog), but autosave is useless because the beginning of my turn was the beginning of the scenario, this combat action was the very last attack of the enemy AI's turn. Log.txt was also blank.

I'm just thinking, shouldn't we also add EXPERIENCE GAINED in the combat log as well?

BTW, where exactly do we look to see our EXACT experience count? The only way I can tell is to look at the stars so far.

You can see it when you go to reinforce, but you have to wait for the delayed tool tip.

I'm confused, still don't see this.

And if I can't find it, I assure you many others wont wither.

They mentioned they plan to have places to see exact experience (I too pointed this out earlier).
As for adding experienced gained in the combat log. I guess that might be nice, but I don't think that's necessary. Did any PZ game ever tell you exactly how much experience you gained? You just checked your unit after the battle if you wanted to know how much experience they had.

On the other hand, why make the user have to check two seperat panels all the time.

Well did PZ any showed you anything like the combat log? :) Showing experience there would be nice.

To reply to the first post in this topic. Here is what's going on exactly.

Sample 1. Your initiative advantage is 3. This means that 60% of your strength fire first. You score 4 kills and 4 suppression (2 from dice rolls and 2 as a side effect from kills). So, total enemy strength disabled by your shot is 8. But only 60% of it got applied BEFORE enemy's counterattack. This is 4*60/100, rounded to 2 kills and 4*60/100 rounded to 2 suppression. So 4 points to subtract from enemy's strength (10). This leaves 6 which can shoot back at us.

Sample 2. Initiative advantage: 3. Again, 60% of your strength fires first. So, we reduce enemy's strength by 7*60/100 rounded to 4 kills and 3*60/100 rounded to 2 suppression. 10-4-2=4.

Etc.

As for the last log where a unit surrenders, we see that enemy's unsuppressed strength is 0, which means it may have been effected by lasting suppression or something. And when a unit is attacked in this state and has nowhere to retreat, it surrenders.
