AI likes rivers

The AI seems to be unaware of the dangers of fighting submerged in water...
First in the tutorial scenario where you are supposed to use bridge engineers. The city behind the river is heavily defended, but the idiots keep walking into the water and I can just move them down.
Then with one of the eastern front scenarios (cant remember which). I'm playing as Russians. I buy T-34's until I'm out of points and stay one hex behind the river that runs through the map. The Germans gladly walk/drive into the river and I can completely wipe out all their units including the massive Karl Gerät...
