DirectX 10

I have a brand new computer with xp on it. Microsoft doesn't want to release directx 10 for Windows XP for commercial reasons. Will all future games require directx10 or will they allow player to run the game under directx9c?

This is a major situation as i see it, because many older games seem to have problems with Vista already (even games that were released in 2006). So the situation as i see it:

- Keep XP and be able to run games that are being released until x date in 2007.
- Use Vista and trash all the older games as they won't run properly under Vista

Imho, Microsoft is really screwing us here...

What's your take....and also, what's Slitherine views and objectives...(when will your games require direct x 10?)

Cheers

From our point of view (and probably most publishers/developers) we dont want to limit our market to Vista only machines. I'm not sure how that effects development yet, we haven't really looked in to it. Maybe we stick with Dx9 for now.

That's very good news indeed...hopefully this will be valid for Legion II as well :D

directx10 probably would be good for now b/c as anguille said its not even out yet, and when it does come out, it may take a couple of weeks for every1 to get it
besides even if you do get it, itll still work for games that use dx9

Anybody who rushes out and buys the first released version of a new Microsoft OS is totally ignoring Microsoft's track record.

Surely no gamer in his right mind would do such a thing?

I imagine it will be (if you need DX10) that you treat them as different platforms - DX10 is quite a lot nicer, but very few people have the hardware at the moment so it's pretty moot.
