After much procrastination and problems with venues, initial details for Roll Call 2011 are now ready.

Dates: 7th-8th May 2011.
Venue: Holywell Middle School, Red Lion Close, Cranfield, Milton Keynes MK43 OJA.
Period: 15mm - 800pts - “Western Europe” any army from “Wars of Religion” and “Trade and Treachery”.
Entry: £15 (teams of 4 £52).

Quite an impressive field

Many thanks to Bruce, Jeremy, Will and others for organising the event.

FOGR seemed to be played in very good spirit. I am not aware whether there was any official umpire at all, and I was only asked one or two minor rules queries.

Thanks to all involved for organising Roll Call over the week-end.

To echo Richard, it was a great competition played in a fantastic spirit and not once did I see the umpire called. Many thanks to my opponents for 4 great games - Andrew, Adrian, Lance and Charles.

What Richard modestly fails to mention is that he won!! Congrats to Richard and also to Ben and Alasdair for 2nd and 3rd respectively.

This was my first competition and I would concur with thanks to the organisers and the people I played who made it a very enjoyable weekend, even though I mucked up the numbers on the Saturday. Especially Chris Beesley who I played last on the Sunday and we had a very gentlemanly game based on learning more about the rules rather than cutthroat competition. Lance Flint was also very helpful with advice and comment during this game.

I only played TYW German Catholics in all three games (there were a lot of them about) but I think 2nd and 3rd went to French armies so I don't think they are invincible. But time will tell if they are the FOGR Patrician Romans or Ugaritics!

My choice of Scots Covenanter and my inexperience meant I got royally trounced in all three games, but I like competitions for that reason. It's the sharpest learning curve. I'll be back!

Also, first game in first competition, I get to play the main guy who wrote the rules, who signs my book and is altogether helpful. Should have asked Charles as well.

I don't think they ever could be, because their only advantage is that they are well balanced. They don't rely on any gimmick or super troops. So they may have a slight edge because of balance, but other armies in the book have other advantages. I think Early 30YW Swedish, Later 30YW Swedish/Weimarian and Later Imperial Spanish are ones to watch, for various reasons.

A lot of beta testers started using Later 30YW Germans because they were one of the (few) lists in the beta test set.

Does anyone have the full result? If so, please share so I can update the rankings with them, especially if FoGR is going to be offered at the ITC.

So far I suspect the only ones who know are Bruce Brown and Jeremy Morgan. Suggest you contact one of them.
