Trick for speeding up combat

I don't know if other people have done this but it is something that Alan started doing in our game last night (report later).
When testing after shooting or a melee you have to roll 2 dice for a CT and 1 die for possible casualties. Alan simply rolled two dice of one colour and one of a different colour. It nearly halves the number of die rolls after a combat and genrally means you don't forget to roll the casualty dice.
It worked well for us, what do others think?
