It nearly happened in the Castilian vs Late Roman fight at Usk - but should an entire army have a 'lost the will to live' test if all their generals are killed in combat?

As a protagonist of this game, pehaps the odds of killing the general is too high.
With every bound with 3 of out 4 generals commited we had a chance of killing a general, especially where better quality troops are involved (and therfore sticking around)
We were lucky - as Mike will no doubt confirm
but kill a general 1:18 ... we certainly had 3 chances each bound, over 6 turns... Someone was going to die!

At the moment I think it is finely balanced. Some people are already fanatical about putting generals into combat, others not so much. If you make them less likely to die then more people will use them. I quite like the idea at the moment that there is no clearly advantageous option at the moment.

Well in four games at the weekend We only lost one general and killed one general. There is an argument that Bruce (who's general we killed) shouldn't have bothered putting him in the front rank as the combat in question was a BG of 6 armoured Gulhams charging the flank of a line of protected Huns
A lot of the time we didn't fight with our generals, I suppose it is a pays your money and takes your chances kind of thing.

Perhaps objective achieved then...
Lots of fun and lots of scary moments
And if you commit all your generals to combat...some do tend to die if they caught up in long drawn out combats - better if they sweep enemy away quickly a la Alexander. Not too many battles occured where generals went in the front melee and all survived!
One of the most fun bits of the weekend to watch was Matt's last stand with his IC and an untouched battlegroup of 4 men-at-arms, HF, Superior, HArm. HWeapon. These were swamped by two legionary BGs but they never once buckled on their CTs due to the IC bonus and him being thrashing away on the front-line. They eventually went down in a galan pile after Matt lost 3 bases (twice suffereing 7 hits) and having his IC killed. The 3 rounds surrounded and fending of the legions was epic. 2 Roman Generals were in the melee too!!
