Points values for Impact foot

More post weekend thinking has brought me to the conclusion that Impact foot is probably too expensive.

My reasoning is that Impact foot really need to be swordsmen to be any good and I suspect that most of them are swordsmen anyway. That means that impact foot troops are paying 3 points for their combat bonuses.

Compare this to offensive spear who cost 2, are far better against mounted and at least even if not actually better than impact foot/swordsmen.

Taking this into consideration I am now looking for an offensive spear army with a reasonable amount of supporting troops.

Actually it is 1 point for impact foot and 1 point for (foot) swordsmen = 2 points total.

OK, error on my part, I could have sworn I remembered them as being 2 points but checking they are 1 and I costed them as 1.

Given the choice between Average/Undrilled/Protected/-/Offensive spear/Spear at 7 points and Average/Undrilled/Protected/-/Impact foot/Swordsmen at 7 I still think I would choose the Spears.

I'd choose the IF. So maybe the points are about right.....

Possibly,

It would be difficult to make the IF cheaper...

I suppose the IF are better than Spearmen against all foot at impact but Spearmen are better in melee as long as they are steady.

I need to try out an offensive spear version of my Visigoth list (OK, not Visigoths but Greeks are looking promising).

Off the top of my head I might prefer sup off Sp to sup IF a little. But if average I rather fancy the Sp to go DISR at some point and collapse rapidly.

It depends what you are up against I suppose.
