ECW Pike & Shot Units - Command Group?

Hello Folks

I have decided to give FoG:R a go for 15mm ECW and I have purchased the Rulebook but can't get to it for a couple of weeks (working away). My question is this; from what I have read pike & shot units tend to be six bases, four shot and two pike. This being so where do you put your flags and officers? Are they separate bases or do you lose a base of pike in order to fit them in?

I am currently looking to expand my old DBR condensed armies into late Royalist, NMA and Covenanters (all 15mm Essex but need to be rebased from bendy card to MDF) so any info you can give me on organising the wee tin men means more time to learn the rules when I get back home. Your input is very much appreciated.

I think it is entirely up to personal choice. I prefer to have my command in the centre so in place of one of the pike bases.

I fit my command on a pike base, es: 1 pike 1 officer 1 standard 1 drummer or 2 pike and only 2 of the others

Thanks Chaps, I think I might mix things up a bit between having a full base of command (2 standards, officer, drummer) for my superior units and just two pikes, a standard and an officer on the bottom of the barrel units. I'm actually excited about painting again... must be spring.

I put a flag on the base with my pikes so 7 pike figs total, and add a drummer or flute guy (cant recall what that thing is actually called) on the end of one of my shot bases.
I added a drummer officer and ensign to my Kings Lifeguard pike bases, but that made for a lot less pikes on the base and I think it looks better otherwise. I have an ensign with the flag so he looks like an officer amongst the pikes.
