First, I glue the sand on the bases.
Glue = half white glue for wood / half water

Then I paint all the bases with their primer color. I use "Iraqi Sand" (819) from Prince August.

On the next stage, I apply a wash using the new products from GW.
I use "Symphonia Sepia".
You could use "Devland Mud" to make the sand more dirty or "Ogryn Flesh" for a red sand.

White highlight

Then I highlight the sand with a white brush and I paint the side of the bases with "Dark sand" (843) from Prince August.

Nice tutorial. Thanks!

A few additional tips.
- If you are going to the beach, especially an Ocean (Atlantic and Pacific for their soft and thin sand), make sure you get some.
- Instead of priming I paint with a mixture of watered paint (half water and half paint) and I apply it gently. The paint will get into the sand and the upper parts will look like less coloured. This way I skip the dry brushing.
- Small braches can be used to add additional colouring, especially if you are doing skirmishers.

PS: I have to get my hands on those MiniNatur, but there are not in Spain and the shipping costs are awful.

Hi
You could buy your sand from a building or DIY supplier (B&Q, Homebase, etc.). You will get a sack for something like the cost of a small GW pot. I use 'Sharp Sand' (a mix with small stones) and a finer building sand. Don't get 'play sand' as this costs more.
These is also useful if I need to make cement........

Also I paint over the sand stuck the base with a coat of watery white glue. This really fixes it to the base.

Just highlight the static grass with very dry brush yellow. This just picks out the tips.
