units disappearing, can,t see facing ( not in hidden mode)

I had to reinstall after PC problems. when game plays now units disappear so cannot see the figures and which way they are facing.
It is not the hidden movement mode, because the units are in clear site plus have tried without hidden movement mode on.
OS system is Vista
