This came up in a practice game ..

I wanted to place my battlegroups more than 1 base-width apart, but still less than 4 MU. I thought that this would allow them to move as a division, which is what the rules say, but my opponent thought they had to be ~exactly~ 1 base-width apart. Is anybody playing it that way? Did I miss the memo?

p42: "...each BG...is separated by at least a base width..."

It can be more as long as within 4MU.

Your opponent (friend????) is wrong. On page 42 it says that all BG in a division must be "within 4 MU" and that at the start of the move each BG in the division is "separated by at least a base width from any other friendly BG unless that BG is any of the following... a keil, light foot, etc.
