I have been playing multiplayer for quite a while now with no problems.
But just lately I have been Failing to connect to server and have to forfeit a turn
It has been random, sometimes the same game sometimes not
Any clues?

What version of the game are you running? Have you recently updated the game? If you haven't try updating the game, this might solve the issue.

Have there been any changes to your internet connection setup during that time? Are you connected via wired or wireless?

Hey, these forums do work.
I have had this brilliant game for quite a while now.
I have only just started playing multiplayer this last month
The first 4 mp games i played there was no problem
The next 2 games I was plagued with Fail to Connect to Server
and had to waste some turns.
However, the next 2 games (im playing now)are working fine.

I have ADSL 2 wired
All the latest updates

PS My first PC was an APPLE IIc and my first game was KAMPFGRUPPE by SSI

I have build 1.5.1
Have played a few more and no problems
Am having a hard time connecting to this most recent one
Frustrating to say the least

I'm not sure what the issue could be. My guess would be that you're having some internet flakeyness. The next update will provide a better retry mechanic where we attempt to create an entirely new connection. I assume you're retrying a couple of times, just in case?

You get 3 attempts, then the option of forfeiting that turn or keep trying
I keep trying but no cigar

It only happens to some games but the same games but not all the time
