Gents,

with the arrival of Clash of Empires a few words on a couple of obscure 15mm manufacturers from Poland all Polish 17thC:

I have just had my first batch from Poland, Polish Command, Hussars and Petyhorcy, early 17thC from QR Miniatures. Rather nice figures with seperate heads and two poses per pack of 8. Also seperate weapons. The detail and anatomy is good, and the first unit is ready for painting. Size wise they are true 15mm but would probably sit well with Essex etc and possibly Legio Heroica, not so well with Fire and Sword or Testudo. Beware at present the website is awful, but the service and cooms with the UK was good. They do Poles and Muscovites and accept PAYPAL

Fire and Sword miniatures are slightly larger, more large 18mm. Plenty of variety and come in boxes of 18 cav, 32 ish Inf. Plenty of variety in each boxe, the lances are metal with little beads for the "round bit"! Each box also contains banners and pennonsd. Nice sculpts they also come with metal bases, just the right size for FOG(R)! They do Swedes, Poles, Ottomans, Cossacks and Tartars. A good website: http://www.wargamer.pl/index.php?catId=354

My favourite remain Legio Heroica, but these chaps produce some useful and good stuff!

The bases are "hard" metal

Looks interesting... not sure if the effort to get them in the US is worth it or not, though.

Does anybody know any other sources for early 17th Century Poles in 15mm (Hussars with a single saddle wing, Haiduks, Kazaks [armored and unarmored] without lance, Petyhorcy, etc.)?

Plenty of sources of 15mm Poles,in adition to the above, Minifigs, Essex, Donnington, Old Glory(US)

Yeah, but most of those are "Siege of Vienna" period.

OLD glory 15s has what you are looking for including pictures of the Poles. they do late and early poles & Cossacks. I have the double winged hussars, armored cossacks and axe/musket haiduks. the horses are big compared to the rider on the former but the later are quite nicely animated. I am looking to pick up some of the other unarmored cossacks in the near future with pistols and hand weapons.

Is their single-wing Hussar a saddle wing, or a post 1650 back wing? The picture on their website isn't assembled, so I can't see where the wing goes (it does look like it might be angled back more like a saddle wing).

Sorry for the delay... Lurker at most these days...

The double wing hussars have their wings attached to the saddle; or really low enough one could claim either... At 15mm unless the back attached wing is closer to the shoulder one might not be able to tell.

But being a pedant myself on certain aspects of modelling, I'm not sure that anwer is sufficient.

For early/mid 17th century husars it would be pretty easy to tell, as most had a single wing, attached at the left saddle, so a) offset to the left and b) not really all that close to the rider at all.
