At last the tournament system is complete!
The first official tournament has a Carthage theme and will be starting on the 21st January. It is a 4 round tournament with 3 days to complete each round. It will complete on the 2nd February where the winner willbe announced and awarded a $10 gift certificate... ooooh! All games are paired and medium sized maps have been selected to give a good chance to resolve games.
This tournament runs on the live server using your current version of the game. You do not need to download anything to particpate - just go here and sign up -
http://www.slitherine.com/tournaments/fog_pc
We have limited it to 32 players because well, its the first one and you're never sure its all going to work until it does ...
If this one goes to plan we'll have larger tournaments kicking off very soon!
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask!

I want to be in, but can't.

I will be away from any internet access for the first weekend of the event. Oh well; better luck next time.

Perfect timing.
I'm off from work from the 22nd to the 3rd......

Must've done something right in a former life.
..
..
..
Can't imagine what that would've been though.

Just wondering is this tournament system adaptable to other games , for instance BBCBA , or is it only suitable for FoG.
Many thanks of this creating this whatever the answer is , you keep us all interested .
Cheers

The system is intended for any game using the PBEM system so yes it would work for Battlefield Academy, War in the East, Panzer Corps, Commander the Great war, Time of Fury etc.
It is better suited to the shorter games but could be used for anything.

How about making the prize a free copy of Legions Triumphant?
In theme and more satisfying than a gift certificate (and cheaper for Slitherine!)

I'll second that.

The tournament is full subscribed and ready to go! Good luck to everyone involved. We are out in the US until Wednesday meeting up with the Matrix team but will try and follow progress while we are away!
We're also continually upgrading the server and have added more systems to track any kind of naughty behaviour so be warned we are watching you and make sure you play fair

Hi,
I played my first round games on Friday night and it's now Sunday morning and still no sign of the second round. Is it supposed to take this long or is the tournament bugged?

The second round can't begin until all games are complete or timed out. The tournament page gives the full schedule. Next round begins tomorrow 24th January at 1210 GMT

Well, they say time flies when you're enjoying yourself, (or come to think about it, when you're about to be hanged)

Hi,
Would love to sign up but not able to access upgraded version - where do I find this ? Auto-update in game only takes to an info page on the website.

One Question regarding turn returns I currently have Processed turn 1 of round 3 and am waiting for them to come back to me but my opponent hasn't done so yet, its been about 2 days now since they were sent out. What happens if the time limit is all most reached and they are sent back Do I as being the one about to take my turn get penalised and loose the matches if the time ticks away before i have the chance to process them? I am asking this as i fear opponent may have dropped out looking at His relative position in the Tourney matches played so far. I could be wrong but i have this feeling that i am not i even sat up till 3 am last night in the hope id get them back due to time Zone Differences (Australia) but alas still nothing this morning and i fear the round will soon elapse. Had no Problems with the first 2 rounds and was able to process 5 or 6 turns one after another on the same day/night.

It's a chess-clock mechanic, meaning that as long as it's his turn, only his time ticks on.
Even if he sends them back with seconds to spare on his clock, that still means you have whatever remains of your 36 hours to make your next turn.
So, you can't possibly lose because of the time-limit as long as its not your turn.
