'Support' combat

Something is definitely screwy with the support-combat, either in the manual or in the game.
The help-file states that:
"...Adjacent enemy battle groups that are not attacked and that are not otherwise engaged gain the 'support image' image..."
(

If so, how is this possible?
The unit lending support has just been attacked itself, so how can it lend support?
Some clarification would be nice.

Perhaps... (in otherwords this is a wild guess), it was giving support in the last move by your opponent?....

Did you see the actual rolls? Sometimes the 'support' lingers over broken units as well...or ones that have advanced beyond the support position...but I'm not sure they are actually still giving support.

Routed units also display giving support... For the longest time Hexwar said this was just a display bug and had no impact on the game, then when it came up in discusion again they did an about face and said it was part of the game.... makes you wonder what really is the case....

Hadn't considered that, so I admittedly didn't check.
I know the pre-combat odds reflected the support, so I merely assumed the combat would as well.
How silly of me
