Question about Colunelas

I have a question about Colunelas. I see that the 3 pike bases must be in column and the 2 shot bases in an adjacent column. The sword base can be either with the pike or shot. If the sword base is with the pike column, does this count towards the 4 pike in column POA when in close combat?

Regards

Richard

Yes.

"Exception: Pike count as being in 3 or 4 ranks for POA purposes even if some of the ranks in the file have heavy weapon or swordsmen capability, provided that there is a base with pike capability in the front rank, the file includes at least 2 bases with pike capability, and all of the 3 or 4 bases are facing in the same direction. E.g. A file which has its first 2 ranks with pike capability, a 3rd rank with heavy weapon capability and 4th rank with pike capability will fight in the impact and melee phases as “pike in 4 or more ranks…” if they are not fragmented or severely disordered."
