Bosporan (84BC) @ 600 Points - Your Thoughts?

Hello, everyone.

I'm looking to build another army. The Bosporan list (circa 84 BC) gives me an interesting option to use imitation legionary types who might actually do something for Mithridates. My opponent and I have agreed to begin with 600 point lists.

Here's what I have. I think it works out nicely, but with still very limited experience playing the game, I'm sure there's probably something I've missed.

1 x C-in-C (Field Quality)
2 x Sub-Generals (Troop Quality)
4 x Lancer Groups (Armored, Superior, Lancer Swordsmen) @ 4 Stands Each
1 x Horse Archer Group (Unprotected, Average, Undrilled Light Horse Bow Swordsmen) @ 4 Stands
4 x City Militia Groups (Pontic Legionaries) (Armored, Average, Drilled, Impact Foot Swordsmen) @ 4 Stands Each
1 x Sindi Archer Group (Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Light Foot Bow) @ 6 Stands
1 x Sindi Archer Group (Unprotected, Average, Undrilled, Light Foot Bow) @ 4 Stands
1 x Sindi Javelin Group (Unprotected, Poor, Undrilled, Light Foot Javelin) @ 6 Stands

Edited to account for required Javelins.

Were I to expand it out, I'd probably look to increase the number of Lancers and Light Horse first, but what I have is limited by the 600 point size we're starting with.

Do you think this would be a workable list? Opponent is building Gallic types, also has Later Carthaginians. My "other" FOG Army (which I've had very little chance to play with so far) is an 800 point Bactrian Greek force. My plans to build pike based Pontics have, thus far, unfortunately not come to fruition, but I wanted to look at this as an alternative as I've already got plenty of Pike to paint in different scales.

Thanks,

M.

Too many city militia

There is a maximum of 12 city milita so you need to drop one of the BGs of imitation legionaries.

For a Bosporan army with a substantial infantry component, I think I would be more inclined to buy the city militia as 2 BG of 6 of armoured LS, swordsmen MF and supplement them with the Thracians with heavy weapons. This avoids having any shock infantry that have to be kept under control and will also allow you to deal with bad terrain which the lancers don't handle well.

Another possibility with the Maeotian javelimen would be to buy them as average MF so they can provide rear support for the city militia or Thracians.

Some good thoughts there, Chris, much appreciated. Will see what I can come up with. Thanks for catching that bit with the Legionaries/Militia. Missed it on both passes.
