How many muskets on bases in P&S units?

What are most gamers who are building new armies doing? Putting three muskets on a base, or four?
I ask because I will be selling the TYW infantry in units and it would be nice to know how many muskets I should have in the units!
Also because of the Confederate Irish that are coming soon -- as they are Musket* I could help the gamer represent that by modeling the units as follows (the 1 shows the element break):
MMMP1PPPP1PMMM
MMMP1PPPP1PMMM
so each Musket* element has a pikeman on it. Problem is that if most don't put four models on the musket element then I'm not sure how to model Musket*. Thoughts?

I would be happy with just 3 shot which is what I use at present. I would certainly not put a pikemen on the stand.

I should have added that in some cases the musket(star) is indicated not because of the balance between pike and shot but also because of their lack of proficiency with the musket. This is for example the case in the yet to be published Covenanting Rebel army.

Or for various other reasons - e.g. the aggressive French Musket*, Impact Foot.

I started with 4 as a carry-over from DBR days, but have switched almost entirely to 3 shot per base which I think looks more visually interesting and helps distinguish between troop types at a distance for the more visually challenged amongst us.

I'm putting 3 to a base with my Testudo figures - IMO with figures that size 4 would look silly.

I'll put 3 muskets per base.
Will the HF come with cast in pikes? I'm more confortable adding them wire spear pikes like Xyston miniatures.
Good work with german Kuirassiere. I'll try to put an order ASAP.

Musket* can represent lower proficiency, tactics, equipment that is low in quality or available ammunition, or equipment that is a mix of new and old or non-military equipment. Only the last shows up in the models, but for armies where that is the case I would expect the mix of figures would be a selling point.

With my Testudo Swedes I put 4 on a base, except for the chaps who would be froming Commanded Shot who go as 3 per base. The same with my Essex Germans/Dutch/Spanish. Most of my Danes are 3 per base (large figures + pose of some ((Musket across shoulder)) See post :

Interestingly I have just based some Mini Figs for a friend and managed to base 8 pike per base!

This is exactly what I did for my 10mm Scots. In that scale I think it looks great and is a long range visual reminder that it is different. That said, in 15mm I think most players here are going with 3 for shot. Perhaps you could you offer a few extra pike separately for people who want to do this.

Or put in sergeant/officer with partisan to make four.

I believe that the Irish musketeers in the confederate army are asterisked because the Irish used more pikes, and fewer muskets, than was customary at the time.
Ok, in any event I will just provide the muskets for bases of 3.
Related question -- what about infantry command? If one uses an officer, standard and drummer, that's three out of eight pikes right there! Is that what gamers are doing?

Certainly true for the Irish that Musket* does, for them, mean few men with firearms - and IIRC the suggestion about pikemen on the musket bases was previously made in relation to them for players who wanted their figures to more closely represent the actual ratios for that army (although figure size practicality may mean it isn't really feasible depending which figures are used).

That's what is being done for 15mm and 28mm here in Texas.
