A normal terrain piece must fit inside a 12MU diameter circle, my questions is what is the dimensions of the biggest square or rectangle shape you can fit in the circle? The reason I ask is I want build a village with either a square or rectangle footprint and I would like to know what is maximum size I can make it and still be counted a one terrain selection.

Any piece where the diagonal of the square/rectangle is no more than 12MU.

So for a square it would be 8.48MU x 8.48MU
For Rectangles:
11 x 4.79
10 x 6.6
9 x 7.9
8 x 8.9
7 x 9.7
6 x 10.3
5 x 10.9

Yeah it really depends on how wide you want it to be.

8" x 8" (8.48x8.48 if you want every last bit!) is the biggest square that will fit.

For a rectangle 10" x 6.63".

Go go highschool algebra!

To avoid doing any maths (this method works for any shape of terrain piece):

Draw a 12 MU circle on a piece of paper

Draw a rectangle (or whatever shape you want yor terrain) that fits in the circle.

Use this as a template for your village.

Is the question you meant to ask:

"What is the largest rectangular area I can make it and still be counted a one terrain selection?"

In that case the answer would be the square that just fits in the circle.

Why not just build your village on an old 12" vinyl record. They are the perfect size ready made. It could even have a well in the middle.

Thanks for the serious answers.

As the first items in my music collection were made of vinyl records and cassette tapes, which is why I can not remember my high school algebra to do the maths for myself.

If you use old fashioned 78's they might turn out to be older than the figures you deploy on the table...

Me certainly, my mother's tastes were a little more catholic than mine - she accepted 45s had a place...
