Hmm, i have been trying to work out what a legal formation would be for Elizabithian infantry regiments
The ones that have 4 Pike 4 Bill (HW) 4 Bows and 4 calivers (arquebus)
My head is swimming on this :?
if B = Bow C = calivers P pikes and H billmen is the following legal (and if so what prevents it from being a Kiel)

cppc
cppc
bhhb
bhhb

edit Never mind , the answer was right on the same page in the Trade and Treachery Supplemnt , doh

so this would be legal

cbppbc
cbppbc
..hh
..hh

or this

ccppbb
ccppbb
..hh
..hh

or would it? Not so sure about the 2 rank deep Billmen in the rear? No only does it seam odd but I cant imagine it being very useful except for the 4 rank POA

It is prevented from being a keil by the list notes.

Thanks, I was hoping to get my audible in before anyone posted

I still am a little confused over what is legal though

The two lower examples i have above I have doudts on because there are 2 rear ranks that have less bases than the rest of the BG, not 1 rank that seems to be the norm for that rule... Perhaps the rear rank of Billmen needs to swing up and get one each behind a shot file? Seems would be more in line with such a large unwieldy formation of miltitias (ie no 4th rank POA)

your rear rank can have less bases, the billmen move up in melee to try and chop up your opponents as overlaps, otherwise they hide out back away from all those nasty musket balls

Ah so my above two examples would be correct for the possble placements of the bow and caliver men but not legal for the billmen.... So the last rank of bills needs to slide up behind one file of shot on each side so front to rear 6 6 4 base wise

The following are legal formations (each letter is a base)

CPPC
CPPC
BHHB
BHHB

BPPB
BPPB
CHHC
CHHC

CBPPBC
CBPPBC
HH
HH

The list notes mean it is a bit different from other army lists.
