Early Barbarossa?

Question about launching an early Barbarossa in 40. West is taken in April. Could transfer forces and launch a Russian campaign in July at least with little fear from the Brits in the rear as they are very weak now. I know I'd lose the oil from the Russians but would this put Russia on war time footing with additional PP's etc. as soon as I declare war, or will they continue with the level of PP's they would normally have gotten without a declaration of war? I.e. is this a really bad idea? Could Sea Lion of course but that always hurts the Russian campaign later. Have tried Spain but that takes so long it has the same effect - Med strategy takes forever and has rarely paid off for me. Or, would it be better to wait til early 41 and launch the overwhelming Barbarossa that stalls out in the Fall and meets with Russian counter attack in 42 and then retreat in 43.

It works against the AI. I have never had the chance to try it against a human opponent. Note that the first Severe Winter penalty is a whopping -45 which was a shock to me when it occurred. When you do this, the Caucasus oil is vital as your reserves will be very low. Can't say what the PP effect was on the Russians. Would need to playtest that to find out.
