Well Pg was my ist pc game ever, on my ist computer , a crochety (and used) old 486. When I ist got the game I played it too death, till my eyes bled (literally, after playing straight 8 hours one time I went to use the bathroom and was horrified to see both my eyes were glowing red, not the been in a smoky room too long red but literally leaking blood, yikes)
Anyway I dont know how many times I got through the main campaign to the last scenario, invasion America, maybe 10-12? Every time the same thing happened: I would use the massive prestige to upgrade all my units to the finest high tech, all Panther and Tiger 2's, Jets galor etc. I would storm the beaches of the Eastern seaboard and force my way inland to the point where my armoured corps were enveloping DC, and then.. I would just stop, close the game and restart. Never could bring myself to complete the final conquest and I never did.
Funny since I have never had/have a problem conquering the world (or the universe) in any other strategy game.
I have no pretensions of any morality or misdirected patriotism in my above reflection (its a game after all), just whimsical musings

In my case, PG, was far from being my first game or even my first computer wargame.
But to be honest I never played much wargames; it wasn't, and it isn't to be more accurate, really my kind of game.
With the PG series I really made an exception. I can remember the first time I installed it, with no hopes of being more than a few hours installed in the HD. The moment I looked into the graphics on screen and started to play was pure magical. It was so... intuitive that I really played it before reading any instructions at all. That outstanding characteristic of being able to attract a casual player into a wargame is something that is at the level of pure geniality in terms of computer gaming design.
For me, PG, is really a masterpiece and it's easily in my top ten computer games.
I was attracted to this title by casual surfing in the internet about PG. From what I read, I can see what the authors are aiming to. I have confident that this will be one the best titles of next year. It's an instant buy for me.
I hope that the word will be spread, not the Yanks are coming but a new PG is coming.
EDIT: Who was the genious who designed the PG? Does anybody knows it's name?

The company was SSI, back in the day they made a lot of good games. Not sure who the lead designer/ programmer was though, I want to say Keith Brors? but i might be thinking he did Steel Panthers....

Thanks, I knew it was SSI. I'll look into my old Retro Gamer magazines. I remember that there was a 2 number covering SSI history.

LOL, 99% of the time when people do this, it's because they realize their core is either too small, or not improved enough and they notice it's best to just re-start the whole campaign over to get more elite units ready for the final upcoming battles. (wink)
Interestingly, I played TOAW BEFORE I ever touched PG2... Yes, I know it's generally the other way around...

Alright, completed the Blitzkrieg campaign AGAIN. Full gold-medals for bragging rights..
I couldn't help but remember this thread during the first American scenario. Luckily, it wasn't as hard as I had remembered it before. However, I did have a few GOOD leaders to help take advantage and exploit over-runs as much as possible. Basically I had stuck with Panzer IVD's since they were available, and ONLY upgraded them to Kings as soon as I was allowed to when Savannah started. Here was my favourite King just after my first upgrade--
I had originally wanted to go to bed at the start of Savannah, but couldn't resist the playing the Kings, of course I had an evil grin on my face for 20 minutes while I juggled around and tweaked my inventory.

He is talking about when the game is already won, where all that remains is a mop-up job. I can relate, I'm like that too. When final victory is but a few mouse clicks away, I stop. I did complete PG, mind you, but I have never completed a Civilization game by conquest, nor any of the Warlords or Total War games. When the enemy is reduced to rubble, unable to offer any significant opposition, I lose interest in fighting them. I don't know, probably the same principle as when someone is playing hard to get.
