Slitherine

In our game today Blathergut had his horse in a column. He was trying to get into a nice flank charge position on me but was too far out front so he wheeled 90 degrees to his left, next move he wheeled 90 degrees to his right. Now he was wondering where his other 3 bases of horse would end up. I felt the next base would be in the first wheel, the other two would be in line at 90 degrees to the second base since they had not entered the first wheel yet. After the second wheel during his next turn he declared the flank charge and we decided to just string the other bases out straight behind the front charging base since he was in a massive S shape due to the 2 wheels but no forward movement. Is this considered a legal formation, and if it was not when would he have done the reform?

Do the bases behind the front base of a BG in column, string out behind the front base or, as in FoGAM, do they maintain their position until they can wheel and move? (Kinked column)

In Dead.'s example, once the front base wheeled 90 degrees left (about 3MU) and then moved another MU and a bit forward, this placed the front base in front of friends, so the remaining 3 horse bases couldn't just string out behind the front one. They also didn't have the movement to move up to the point of wheeling and complete the wheel.

Doesn't page 34 in the Exception section cover this? The first exception is all about columns.

Does the bit about "which could never expand into a legal formation from a one base wide column in one move" refer to large BGs that expanding by two bases still wouldn't put them in their original formation more than 3 bases wide?
