Multiplayer Design Help

There seems to be a common request for more multiplayer battles to play. I'd like to help out but I have some reservations about trying. I've played only a few MP battles.

What I have observed is that most maps have a lot of things to block travel and LOS. I designed a few scenarios for other 3D wargames and LOS seems to always be a problem. Some WWII units have long range ability. Good for the side that has them, bad for the side that doesn't. The side that doesn't tries to take advantage of terrain to close the distance before contact. With 3D terrain you can make rises and dips to do this. With BA we only have one ground level and one rise that isn't slight. You can't sneak up to the ridge, hull down, and spot your enemy before he spots you. If you fill the map with blocking trees, hedgerows and buildings, you negate the long range ability of the side that has it, defeating the purpose of having it in the first place.

So what do we do?

Interesting question. Perhaps more scouts for the side with long range ability will help. I'm never too sure about balance - its very hard to achieve and one mans walk in the park is another mans waterloo. A lot depends on the objectives set.

I think the best thing is go ahead and design away and then tweak based on comment back. I hope to make some multiplayer stuff myself in the not too distant future so if we can pool knowledge and experience gained we will get there slowly.
