Number of dice?

Can a developer (or aynone for that matter) explain how the number of dice is arrived at for shooting mixed BGs?

I'm playing a game as Early Fatimad Egyptians and much to my horror, my Abid al shira -- (bow) lt. spear/swordmen HF -- are getting zero hit percentages against protected foot. On closer inspection, I see this is because they're only rolling one die!

Going to online help is no help (of course) because it apparently hasn't been updated in eons. No mention of mixed battlegroups or even of crossbows. Going to the TT tables isn't very helpful either because of changes made to the PC game.

Mind you, these troops have MF bow icons in the second rank. Richard's Crusader HF have LF crossbows in the back rank and they shoot much better. Someone please explain...

There was an error and this is fixed in 1.4.1 as follows:

Normal Shooting
LF rear rank 1 attack
MF rear rank 2 attacks

Support shooting when being charged
MF rear rank 2 attacks
LF rear rank 2 attacks when being charged by mounted otherwise zero.

Thanks for that answer, but.... how does one tell what type of rear shooters they are? Now its easy when you use the scen editor because you are choosing the weapon slot, in the DAG battles I dont belive there is any indication if the supports are LF or MF. I honestly cant tell from the graphics alone(although would they really look any different bewteen the two?)

Oops , never mind, I am guessing the rear ranker LF are two icons, the mediums are 3? Would be nice to have some text notation in the DAG purchse screen for those of us with aged eyeballs:)

TGM, you've got it! Thanks, Keith. Unfortunately, the fix will be too late to save my Fatimids who died a pathetic death.
