BABF Testers Thread

I'll start here. Add on or start your own thread.

I had a great time finally getting to see 3D French armour in a computer game. I worked with a Combat Mission designer on a series of battles for May June 1940 and Sealion but we had to substitute the available armour for the French models.

First impressions

Schneiders and P178s seem over powerful and over armoured. I had a P178 drive up to a stationary PzIII, exchange shots from 3 squares and take out the PzIII.

Soumas and Char B1 bis are tough to kill but so they were.

I made it through the first 3 battles. Not easy for me and I didn't get many achievements. I was fun of course. I can't wait to play as French.

I poked around the files and started making my own campaign. I found this in the text files.

IDS_LTIP33, "Tip: In multiplayer the 'back' button (top left) allows you to surrender, or save your turn to continue later.",
IDS_LTIP34, "Tip: The Campaigns button on the main menu will pulse if there are new free missions to download.",
IDS_LTIP35, "Tip: You can CTRL+left click on a unit to bring up a draggable information panel about it.",

The info panel is great. We'll have to figure out what info we want to appear now. I need to redo the descriptions in my Pacific campaigns and enter something more meaningful.

We have a small design group working on some secret new stuff who are beta testing Blitzkrieg France. They are all beta testing the campaign and posting their findings here so those of you not involved can get a feel for it :)

There's my first feedback only on the four first battles. I found them great and fun, without major bug.

The campagin's text (IDS_CAMPAIGN_TEXTd,"Out-manouvred and out-fought, Allied resistance begins to crumble.",) is too large that his box on my screen (tested with 1355x768 and 1280x1024) :

I have noticed some errors with the head of achievement's message in game (US/UK head instead german).

In first battle, the 'stuka achievment' don't work for me.

I found the first three battles balanced (almost too easy for me 8) ), cons for the fourth (Crossing the River) is particularly hard (too much hard ?) but not impossible. I had to try several times before figuring out how to :roll: Once you understand the correct strategy for this battle, I really enjoyed playing, probably one of the best missions :-)

In all the battles, the french's heavy tanks are hard to destroy, Somua S35 is a really nightmare. Forced to ambush, engineers (with refits) is usefull for, as panzerbusche.

Display panel with reinforcements, achievement, objectif, etc. is great. It's very well done and nice to play.

I would like to see Multiplayer pulse when you have a turn waiting.

The problem there is that at that point you aren't logged in. It would be pretty cool to be able to stay ingame and be notified though. I will add it to the task list.

I was doing that yesterday with Sailing Guy and BA. I finished my turn, left the game at menu, then alt tab to access my browser.

You still haven't deleted that broken hotseat game of mine so if the pulsing works like systray I wouldn't know it was a new turn or that broken one.

I posted a challenge. I picked the Town fight and French. My challenge was accepted. I opened my turn and I am the German side. But in the bonus items I have the French plane.

Just accepted a challenge from junk2drive.

I like the new maps and units, diffictulty is ok I think. One annoying thing was the scream of a French unit when under attack, it lasts to long, because most of the time the player is already moving his next unit and the sounds a heard through each other which isn't nice.

It's gone now - not sure how the monthly checks missed it. Although the Tray Tool shouldn't show hotseat games at all any more - are you sure you have the latest version?

I just turned it on and it popped up no turns ready. That's good. I assume it doesn't pick up BF yet.

Once again I picked Allies and start the battle as Axis. Do you guys have the text backwards? Top line is Allies, bottom is Axis. I made sure I clicked Allies and it was highlighted before I sent the challenge. Or is first player always Axis?

I would guess the first turn is always Axis in these missions.

You guys are playing on the test PBEM server, so the Tray Tool won't see the games you are playing.

I think the issue is in BF side 0 is German not Allied so we need to change the way the sides are dispalyed.

Don't have an awful lot of time, but will try a turn every few minuits available. I am at the university right now so it will be in the evening I think.

I really like the looks of the maps :)

The sides.txt shows Axis side 1 and Allies side 0 just like before.

Surtur I am -7 GMT but I am home all day right now.

At the top of the screen in MP, is a text Replay with a percent number. The current turn I am playing it took a long time to complete. Is this just for debugging or a new feature?
