I have lost contact with one player, maybe two, because games have finished quite abruptly and we hadn't arranged the next game. Is there any other way of locating them by username and sending them a PM without first trawling through the 600+ pages of the membership list?

Yes, go to private mesages. Click New Post. Enter the username in the box and you're set.
