What colours should I use when I paint up my Later Imperial Spanish artillery?

Not sure there was a real standard colour for artillery during this period. From what I have read artillery were all independents who hired themselves out. You could leave the arty natural wood, but from what I understand it was normal to paint it to protect the wood from the elements. Perhaps red, seems kind of like a Spanish colour, would be a good choice.
