Any plans to do a naval version of this gem. It would be excellent for any period from sail to WWII (WWI my particulair fave)

Smirfy you must have ESP ... was talking about that same thing with my brother the other day. Seems there aren't many Naval games that aren't RTS. I vote for a BA Naval series. It would be fun playing the Graf Spee or Bismarck and larger battles (sail, WW I) and what if (Yamato against the US Iowa class). What do the rest of you think?

Guess it would also work using the Field of Glory model too with the DAG system. Turned based with your terrific MP system.

A naval version is a good idea. It could be modded in the meantime, but ... it wouldn't be as cool as an official Slitherine version.

If you guys have an itch for a basic, fun, naval game ... Might I suggest BattleShip Chess, for 1 or 2 players.

Battlefield Naval Academy...Nice idea! Game would need to be a bitmore complex as a ship could be damaged in different levels of detail, have different guns, movement have inertia and such but it would be a blast!

Battleshippchess have nice ideas behind but inferface and gameplay is awful!

I'd buy this in a heartbeat.

First thing I noticed about Battleship chess is no carriers. Lost Admiral Returns is pretty good.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Lost Admirals, and oldie but goodie.

Although we like our Battlewagons we can't forget about the sub's ...

Imagine an MP convoy scenario ... Perhaps a tournament ... Brits vs German ... can coin the campaign "Tonnage War".

Some cool ideas ... BA has a lot of potential to be anything.

I second this game! Used to play this quite a lot, still installed on my PC. Graphics look a bit dated now but it does play a bit like a simplistic Battlefield Academy!

Another good one is Empires of Steel at Battlefront. It's the new Empire game which is mostly naval. And there's a price reduction to $20 which makes it a bargain.

I would buy a naval version in a flash. Be good to have some carrier battles BA style.

It's actually something we were talking about a couple of days ago. It does feel like there could be something there, although it might need something more to flesh it out - otherwise it would be somewhat like a tank battle with no cover - and with aircraft carriers sending out strikes at range! But we did have a few good ideas along this line - and I am sure that you guys have more! ;)

Cheers

It certainly would need fleshing out and the tile system might have to be radically altered to acomadate 16/32 points of the compass facing and movement but I'm sure you guys can come up with something to marry in with what you have created with Battlefield Academy. You just have to imagine what the Hood, Bismarck,Lion, Tiger or Derflinger would look like using this graphical engine to drool. Sure you need incremental damage, armour, secondary armament and Torpedoes and more to put some meat on it right, but think of the suspense waiting for the Hood to come out of those shell splashes intact. If you can stretch your production capacity to including a campaign game as well as historical and hypothectical battles that should play well. There are plenty of naval wargame rules for minature battles floating about and Action Stations for the PC was a pretty good naval wargame in its day and turn based can be found on abandonware sites might help for what needs to be modeled. I'm sure you guys can come up with something, ps dont worry about aircraft until the expansion pack :D

You could simplify it a bit by setting it in WWI for the first release (i.e. no aircraft), then an expansion pack for WWII with carriers.

Just imagine all those Dreadnoughts as we re-fight Jutland ...

Oh yes! :P

And the carriers wouldn't have plane units, use the bonus airstrikes like we do now.

Here ya go

I couldn't get the German "fleet" to move. See if you can take out the battleship "King Tiger"

EDIT hold on, I set agg to defend. I will post the updated version.

I would agree with the WWI for a Naval Battle game. I think the fun factor would be higher without the carriers and airpower. I think of the battle cruisers and variety of Battleships. Light cruisers and destroyers running at high speed to launch torpedos. Watching the British BC suddenly explode because of design flaws, what a chance you would take with those ships ... never knowing when or if they go kaboom. There are alrady WW2 Carrier games but not a good turn based Naval game with surface action. Single ship or fleet ... Give me Give me Give me .... Please!

It's hard to do a naval game without WW2 I think, and then we do run into the issue of airpower. We have talked about it a lot, and I think it would need something to make it more about combined arms (again) with landing craft and island taking infantry.

Note: I call Friday night drunk context.

Well done Junk!

A lucky rear shot settled for the King Tiger the second I spotted him - first shot kill ... very fortunate I guess!

Were the trucks merchant ships or destroyers? My knowledge of Midway is too limited to know.

Yeah the trucks were supposed to be transports or merchant ships. I was just having some fun throwing something together for you guys. You need to find a 3D modeler to make your ships.

Don't know now to take that ... since my post was the one directly previous to this "Note" and since I do not imbide, I don't know if I was insulted or not. Explanation of the comment is probably needed.
