Following a hard drive failure

I need to reinstall all of the above. I believe I have backed up all of the installation files and patches so would just like to know what is the optimal sequence for doing so. I just hope I can find all of the product codes, as I have just thought of that. Thanks in advance for any help proferred.
Cheers, Jim

Best way to do it is FoG then the latest expansion - Immortal Fire currently. The latest expansion will have most of teh updates built in so bring you up to date barring a few download files that you can grab when you first run.
The only potential issue is if you have teh old Rise of Rome installer which mistakenly builds in game files. If your RoR installer has a version number on teh exe, install FoG, then RoR, then the latest expansion. Otherwise installing RoR will revert you to an old version. Any questiosn just ask as I know we made this more complicated than it needed to withteh RoR confusion. We've fixed it but those with the original installer before we updated have to be careful.
It was a result of not really planning how future expansions would bolt together until we had to deal with it.

and can't we get the new installer for all the packages? eventually in a torrent file initially seeded by Slitherine?

We dont have one yet - it might be possible but does raise security issues. We'll need to have a think about the best way to deal with it.

Security problems would remain the same: still using the serial for install.
The thing is, it is not right to let the first customers which got the older installer have install problems, when these are solved in a new installer.

Maybe put the link under our profile. We have all our keys in there, so if we are registered for ROR, turn on the link for new version.

Now I'm well and truly buggered!
My Main PC is still down so I thought I would update the copy I have on my wifes' laptop(XP). That had FoG, RoR and SoA up to ver 1.2.8. I tried to install IF but there was a message saying that it didn't have 1.2.8 but it could auto update to that, then install IF.
I went for that option but, on the attempt to install IF, it brought up the same message. I aborted and it offered another auto- update to 1.2.9. Went for that but then got a message saying the install was corrupt and to reinstall FOG. I aborted again.
I then tried to run the game - no go (forget the message but it was negative) so decided to remove the whole thing and re-install from scratch. But now when I try the uninstall option it brings up a message saying that it can't - presumably because it is corrupted.
What now

You need to manually clean up everything (clean the registry entries, delete the files). see Morbius' thread from a while ago, I've explained in there in detail.

We're working on a secure system to issue the files out to customers but its work in progress and we need the file to issue. There is no master file of Field of Glory right now - we wont have that until Swords & Scimitars is finished which should be soon.
I know its a pain and we'll do what we can to get this sorted ASAP.
For now though I'd delete the entire Field of Glory folder from Program files and remove it from your registry to avoid causing any confusion. Cancelling an installation part way through could do anything to be honest - there is no way to recover from it other than trying again and if you uninstalled after a partial install it could be messy

Trouble is it won't let me uninstall. The message is : 'Invalid uninstall control file:c:\Program files\Slitherine\Field of Glory\uninstall\uninstall.xml'
The Exe. file was showing 1.2.9 but both that and the 1.2.8 that I overwrote it with give the same 'corrupt' message.
Interestingly, another version of 1.2.8 showed up installed, bizzarely in: C\Documents & Settings\Laptop\Desktop ???
It appears to be playable but the IF installation won't work on it.
My main PC looks to be terminal so I will probably be buying a new one with Windows 7 on it but, judging by an earlier thread, that may well present its own set of problems.

It sounds like you have 2 installations in different places?
Its hard to know at to suggest without seeing it.
We'll work on a full installer asap.

I suggest looking at the last post and maybe look at the log file - it may give a clue to where the problem lies.

Morbio,
It should be all set now. Something was funny with the url tags in your original. When I deleted them and reinserted them it fixed the problem. Not sure why it was happening.

hi, I got the same problem because I have bought the old RoR install. I hope you will make the new file avialable to ALL customers, which means the one that have bought from Matrix too...
