I am painting a later medieval army which I want to use for a Danish army circa 1400-1500. I am looking for models in 15mm of mounted crossbow. I have looked at Essex and they seem a bit early, Legio heroica don't look very armoured ( although I may go with some of them) and Mirliton look a bit Swiss.

Any suggestions? The more the merrier because I want a good mix of poses in the units of this army.

The mirliton mtd Xbow from the cummunal range are good for less fully armoured troops.

Thanks for the Italian Commune also, but I want something a bit later and more rather than less armoured. They are rated as armoured in FOG .

Do people think I could use this for later Danish: http://www.vexillia.ltd.uk/venexia/images/scangi06.jpg , or is it a bit too late. I am thinking of the flashy hat.

I am not trying to be really historicaly accurate as I want these battle groups to be morphed into other later medieval armies, and I want lots of variety. So there is room for some artistic licence there, but I guess I should steer clear of wildly wrong things.

Essex in their Medieval Early Rennaisance (MER) line. Also Eastern Medieval (EMED) range.
Minifigs - Hussite range. If you can stomach them.

Old Glory do some quite nice ones with two-part castings split at the waist - there are some pics on my site in the 15mm photo gallery.

I am planning on a mix of Vexillia, Donnington and whatever was left in the bits box.
