User interface feature requests

As long as I'm making my Christmas wishlist, here's what I'd like to see in future FoG updates. Feel free to pile on if these are things you think would be great (or stupid).

(1) The most common mistake I made as a newbite was charging light troops with some non-light troop, and the light troop then unexpectedly (to me) evaded. How about a tooltip or icon that appears when hovering over the target unit indicating to the attacker "This unit will try to evade your attack?"

(2) My choices for combat information seem limited to (a) no useful combat information or (b) huge amounts of combat information presented in a confusing format. I kind of wish that the "detailed" combat info was written such that someone who isn't a FoG expert could parse it. You can really only understand what it's saying if you read the source code. Which none of us have. Which brings me to point #3:

(3) Seriously, guys, you need an actual manual. One that explains combat in detail. I would even pay for it as part of an expansion.

(4) Once we have detailed combat info that is readable, I'd sort of like to be able to pause after each enemy combat (so that I could actually read the detailed combat info and understand why I just got destroyed).

(5) I refuse to believe that I'm the only person who has difficulty telling which hex side my troops are facing sometimes.

(6) A replay of the entire game from start to finish (note: I kinda want this for my http://hexwar.com games, too :-)

That'll do for a start, although I can think of other things that would be helpful.

actually, 1) is already obsolete, as the new custom evade behaviour was added from 1.3.6beta.

It's not obsolete for those of us running 1.3.5, which is the latest version "check for updates" gets me :-)

Your troops like mine, stilling in training, don't know their left from there right... or is there a secret manover I missing?

7) Rolling dice animation. "I can't believe I rolled five 1's with my impact foot!"

1.3.6 is only in beta for swords & scimitars. You'll get it soon!

I'd also like this, even now I still make mistakes with my reading of the facing.

A lot of the suggestions made are good sense and I fully support them.

I think the comment about the LF evading prompt being made obsolete is because the new release (currently in beta... and hopefully to go live soon) enables a user-setting of evade levels so it won't be as predictable if the unit will evade.

P.S. ( 8 ) Rolling dice animation with only 5's and 6's for my offensive battle rolls if the opponent is Pantherboy!

The alternate base ring with the point at one end and the arrow at the other is a big help, particularly with those SoA dismounted knights.

I have to agree with item #2 especially for someone new to the system. I have been playing FoG for almost a year now and finally understand *better* what is represented...but have to admit sometimes a result is still a mystery to me.

(8) Better sorting on the single-player maps (eg, let me sort by which expansion is supported...)

FIY, there's a huge fixes/improvements/requests thread processed by me in here. You might want to take a look, an eventually make new suggestiions to add in there.

It is better to keep them all in the same place, so that Slitherine guys won';t have to search through various places, or skip anything by "chance".. :)
