Commanded shot and protection

Just wondering about the commanded shot and their getting protected status.
In our last game the cav that was with the commanded shot charged into my cav. Next Parliament turn the commanded shot charged in, do they still count as protected in impact since they started out not adjacent to friendly cav but did end the charge adjacent to friendly cav, or would the protection only apply from the Melee phase on. :?
Inquiring poodles need to know these things.

At impact we were adj to friendly horse.

I don't remember exactly, but the front edge or first bit of depth of the front MF base may have started up past the rear edge of the horse a bit.

If they were Protected as per the definition in the rules, which it seems that they were, then they count as Protected.

FOG doesn't try to second guess the events leading up to the situation - just apply the rules as written.

As I understand it, the horse of both sides were in melee and the Commanded Shot charged the overlapping enemy horse, ending up in side edge contact with its friendly horse and with its front not farther forward than even with the friendly horse.
So the Shot are Protected but it helps them only a little in Impact.

POAs in Impact:

The Shot are Protected but don't get the Protected Shot + against mounted because the foot are charging

The opposing horse do get the + for Impact Pistol against the Steady protected Shot since the Shot are charging

The opposing horse don't get the + against unprotected medium foot (so protection helps the Shot avoid a -- net POA)

So the Impact is at Advantage opposing horse.

The Melee, assuming neither side suffers a cohesion loss, is at Advantage Commanded Shot.

Yah thats how it went down, I couldn't get that much desired ++ on the foot, try as hard as I could, so I was up in impact and then down in melee. The fight lasted for about 4 turns with me fragging both units and then eventually breaking, guess after destroying 2 other cavalry units they were a little tired.

That was a good one! Horse to the left of commanded shot broken. Commanded shot fragmented. Poor Horse to the right of commanded shot fragmented. And they end up winning!! 8)

After which point my artillery blew their victorious fragmented behinds to oblivion, thus completing what Monty and the cav could not
