In addition to turbosquid as a source for ground, building and landscape textures, I found this site

Did you ever get textures to work?

I cant. I'm trying to change the texture of the US Infantry. I edited the DDS in photoshop, put it in my new campaign folder, but I'm still seeing the old texture in game.

Is there a tutorial or anything on it?

Starting at the beginning, are you going to use the original 3D model and just mod the uniform?

If so, did you give the dds the same name as the original?

Did you put your dds in your campaign folder in Data\Battles\UnitTextures ?

Did you save your dds as DXT3 and allow the save to make the mipmaps?

disregard. i got it.

did something totally dumb.

i composed the campaign folders/files before i 'created' it in game.

Should have my first batch of modern day US Soldiers (with ACU uniforms) posted tonight

Great!

Probably not dumb, just in a hurry. I overlook the obvious sometimes.

My first attempt.

These look much better in game, and you can really make out the textures much better

Left - US Soldiers with ACU camo and IOTV armored vests
Right - Insurgents with woodland camo and ski masks

I need make the woodland camoflague texture a little smaller, the pattern looks too big.

I did something similar with the old desert pattern for Combat Mission. It is tough to shrink thing down and still have them recognizable.

Try shift + 3 for your next screen shot.

Ah good call.

I fixed up some of the textures a bit. Made the woodland camo smaller so its better to see. Also tweaked the ACU camo and armored vest.

Next step...how do I change icons?

I assume you mean the overhead icons. That is named UNITICONS.dds and the modded one goes in your main campaign folder.

Each position left to right is determined by the scripts. The empty spot on the right can be used but you have to script for it.

Each set top to bottom is for promotions and can be set in the editor with the keyboard 1 2 3 if you want your units to start with higher levels.

Alright thats done. Where are the flags located?

That gets a bit trickier.

Briefing flags are in Data\UI\Textures

On map Victory marker flags are in Core\Anim

Side flags are sideicon# in Data\UI\Textures

Find my thread on adding countries. I'm off to work.

Get the STUB doc for mod file structure.

Us Army Rangers with Multicam uniforms, desert tan plate carriers, and M14 rifles

Texturing at miniature levels is very difficult!

I'm enjoying this. I just need some vehicles!

Insurgents. RPG team with an RPG-7 (it doesn't texture very well using the Panzerschrek) and an Insurgent rifle team with AK-47's

Great stuff Mike! They look really good. How did you get the close up on the models - I can't ever get that close to the action - my camera seems fixed?
