Now that I got Monty's flag all figured out I also have the Mac Colla the Destroyer and body guard from Warlord, and I was wondering what flag he would have flown. I was thinking the Scottish blue field with white X (cross??) but without the writing that you see on the Covenant flags. I am some what doubtful both those boys would have their own royal Scottish banner but who knows...

The white X is technically a saltire not a cross.

Thanks for pointing out the proper terminology Scrumpy. I will have to see if I can find any reference on his nationality, thought he was Scottish but perhaps not.

Alasdair Mac Colla (c. 1610–1647) was a Scottish-Irish soldier. His full name in Scottish Gaelic was Alasdair Mac Colla Chiotaich Mac Domhnaill (English: Alasdair the son of Colla the Left-handed MacDonald).
He was givin command of the Irish Confederates who went over to Scotland to fight with Montrose.
But you have to remember that coming from the Macdonalds he had a hatred for the Campbells not only had they stolen land from the Macdonalds but they had also captured his father who they excuted after the defeat and ravaging of the Campbell lands.
Getting back to his nationality it is Scottish even if he stayed for large parts of the time in Ireland, as to the flags that his soldiers would have it would have been the Irish Confederate flag as he was'nt a Macdonald lord and not have a right to fly their flag.

Thank you David, I figured he was Scottish by the spelling of his name, the Mac part. I have a bunch of Irish Warlord flags any rough idea what the Irish Confederate flag might have looked like? The flag sheet has some nice flags but no idea which is which.

Not quite true you can have Irish Macdonalds/Macsweeny's and the like all desendents of 14th Scottish Merceneries I know its splitting heirs but were you come from seems to matter.

Getting back to the flag again, so far the only reference I have found to an Irish Confederate flag is that it was green field with a yellow/gold harp. Does that sound right?? Got Mac and the boys ready to prime up so with luck will be needing a flag soon
