Your favorite adjustments to CEAW:GS

I find the game much more enjoyable with the following adjustments to the units data file:

1. Regular Infantry Corps, movement reduced from 4 to 3. Armor and motorized infantry should have a lot more mobility than regulars. Increases the value of mobile units.

2. Strategic Bombers, Land and Sea spotting range increased form 5/6 to 6/7 respectively. It gives a little more reason to bother purchasing them at all.

3. Fighters and tactical bombers, land and sea spotting ranges decreased from 5/6 to 4/5 respectively. This again emphasizes the strat bomber as a potential recon unit if nothing else.

Does anyone else have some recommended changes that they think improve the game? I'm interested in hearing others views.

Respect your openess to improvements:

1. Depends on what you want to simulate. USA & UK inf units were largely motorized, German & USSR were not. Also terrain matters. A clear hex in say, Belgium has far more road density than a clear hex in the Don bend, in terms of realism.

2. Agreed. An air unit on recon would have more range since it wouldn't be carrying bombs or ammo.

3. FTR and TAC units were also often used on recon (P-51, Mosquito!). Range and speed were increased by stripping them down to just cameras.

Note: Its really hard to generalize air units. Example: P-51D with such huge range isn't reflected in the game techs. The Mosquito on photo recon, at the altitudes where it operated, was faster than any piston-engined German fighter (see Milch's & Galland's memoirs) and essentially was impossible for the Luftwaffe to intercept. The combat ranges of the different aircraft types varied widely and can't be accurately reflected with just FTR-TAC-SAC and tech levels. Still, I applaud everyone's attempt to make things more accurate!!
