Turbosquid is a repository for lots of graphic items. I have used the site for many years for 2D items like grass tiles and buildings skins.
Here are some freeware AFVs

Of interest to me are the Japanese units. They are low poly by today's standards. Not very detailed and that is fine for our game.
There are a couple of Italian and Soviet units as well. Of course a search could turn up all kinds of things.

They are nice models - they are actually a bit high poly for this game at just under 3,000 polys - the Churchill in the model pack provided by Slitherine is 236 ploys

My greyhound came in about three times that but then I did add a commander.

Yikes! I knew they (in game) were low poly but not that low.

The game can handle much higher poly counts. We just try and keep them low because we want to be low-spec friendly. There is a hard limit because of an internal buffer, but you'd need more than 15000 vertices when using the model types we use in BA. Although you'd probably struggle on low end machines then

What about the trees and brush? I'm kind of leary putting too much nature objects on a map for fear of slowdown.

Yes - the renderer for those objects isn't very optimised for tons and tons of them. It's on the long list... Having said that, people are generally OK with better looking stuff needing a better machine - there is nothing in the current game that doesn't run at nearly 100fps on my very modest and 3+ years old main machine. So you have some wiggle room for everything other than netbooks
