Having started to look at Tilly's army and Early Tercios I came across an oddity that may require an Errata.

P75/76. Charging to Contact and Stepping Forwards. Bullet 4. 'Each File must remain in at least corner to corner contact with an adjacent file of the same battle group'. There is an exception for an early tercio that has sufferred base loses but even without base loses this can happen to an early tercio exactly as shown by files D and C in the diagram on page 76.

Which is correct the rule or the example. I always presume the rules and not the example are right but I believe the example makes more sense.

On page 76, file D is still in contact (not all of file D, but at least part of file D).

The lost-bases situation is best imagined by looking at Tercio 2 on page 31. The front right horn is in at least corner contact so the file is in contact. Imagine the right file stepped forward a little - this would leave the right file without any contact with the remaining tercio bases because some bases are missing due to losses.

Mike, thanks for that. Part of the file being in contact rather than all works for me and still meets the rule as written.
