Super Scouts

I have just saved and exited a game I am playing with PirateJock. It's Beta 2 Race for the Town and I was playing as US.

The scout unit that begins the game on foot on the right flank of the US forces had moved next to the right hand flag on their side of the map when I noticed that it had the option to deploy.... like deploy troops from a vehicle. I was intrigued by this so I clicked it. In the square that I clicked an M3 half track loaded with a bazooka team appeared!

I was somewhat amazed (pun intended). :shock:

I tried again, this time the M3 contained an infantry team. :shock:

Then a mg team followed by another infantry team. :shock:

That is... unexpected!

I'm trying to think of a reason why that could happen! I doubt that the map changed as you are playing an older beta version.

It appears that the scout managed to get mixed up with another unit - one that can deploy. But generally there is only one unit loaded...

I'll grab the game file and take a look.

It's a shame it's a bug, I could have used that extra infantry. :D

I would say that the units would have to come from elsewhere on the map - unloading doesn't create units, so I don't think you could have gotten any extra.

Old beta >>>> New code? Perhaps it doesn't jive well with deployment (fixed,non-fixed) ... or the Scouts have a new SQUADDEF called "Summon_Minion" :wink:

Isn't there a script to have reinforcements come on map loaded? Maybe there is only one x,y and they all loaded onto the scouts.

Any news / thoughts on this? I have had the same happen on another match (River of Blood); unfortunately leaving a truck blocking a bridge as it's jammed between a tank trap and a light fortification ... doh!

Can you tell me which game you had it happen in please. Is the turn still up there?

Is this repeatable in any way - if you play again are you able to do the same thing?

If so tell us how so we can investigate.

Is there any chance this game spans versions? E.g. the incoming turn was from 1.3.10?

OK - I think we worked it out. The good news is that it should only affect games started before the patch, and so these should gradually fall out of the system. And it will only happen under specific circumstances, although obviously we should have spotted it before the patch and worked it through!

It all points out even more how we need a more robust replay system, which is being worked on! Honest! :(

Hi Pip

Thanks for looking in to this and, even better, identifying what had happened. Yes both games where it has happened to me where started with the previous version and the issue was seen when playing a turn with 1.4.1.
