>no painting guide...but lots of pretty pictures!

(I was/am completely new to TYW/ECW. I found an endless supply of painting tips and information online. There are also a few Osprey books that were very helpful.)

>I have only been using 25mm. They look excellent (in my humble opinion) and play perfectly with the rules.

thanks for the info.

i guess i can live without a painting guide, i have never painted before but everyone has to start somewhere.

this is gonna be my first minis game and i plan on getting some 25MM ECW figures for it :)

The rule book contains "starter lists" for

French and Imperialist from the Italian Wars.
Royalist and New Model Army 1645.

On the subject of which - why is the 1645 Royalist starter list in the rule book so different from the Late Royalist starter list in the army list book?

Why not? Both are legal under the main list. The starter lists are not based on particular historical orbats. They are just designed to give beginners a steer towards a reasonably balanced and effective (and not untypical) force. Most players will graduate to the main lists fairly quickly anyway.

I use the starter lists for learning the game; it's the only time I play equal points games.
The rest of the time I use the rules for battle refights or scenario games, so I'm perhaps one of the few who doesn't really use the main lists at all except as a guide to how troops should be classified.
Then again, my 20mm ECW figures are all based in a non-standard way anyway (40mm squares), but I'm sure the rules will play fine since both sides are based the same.

one more question.

i was reading the thread about base sizes, and i saw the depth of the bases for 25MM, but i didnt see a width.

probably a stupid question, but thanks in advance

At the top of the table I think it is you will see the base width for all 25mm is 60mm while that for 15mm figures is 40mm . Look again.
