It's not, it's just an odd pose.
Couldn't find an exact match, but this one from HäT should give you the general idea of the figure in question.

Maybe so. I zoomed in and flipped the map too and they just look backwords. Wouldn't be the first time either that figs are backwords in fog.

It is correct. The marine is holding his sword pointing to and looking at the front while holding and pointing his shield to his rear.

All righty then. At least IF BGs tend to look like they're facing somewhere. I had big trouble figuring out which way dismounted knights in SoA were facing (without help from the arrows of course.)
