End of game three ??“ Questions and Ideas.
1. The order of march/deployment ??“ essential to any army - seems to have no significance to the layout or plan of the battle. Anything can go anywhere and seems to lead to totally unhistorical gamesmanship. The best plan always seems to be to leave critical Bg`s till last so that they can react best to the deployment of the enemy. To call these a reserve would be over generous, as it seems a perfect tactic for elephants, artillery and expendables. Have we missed something?
2. The sequence for Inter bounds is clear, but not who does each event first. I.e. who moves generals first as being simultaneous doesn??™t really work?
3. VMR`s for charging units ??“ why would your best troops charge further than others with a serious risk of exposing themselves and fragmenting the Battle Line? Surely their discipline and quality is contrary to such rashness. On the other hand their quality increases the chances of catching someone. These balance out??¦??¦.
4. Do routers in their Initial rout move leave a table side edge or do they deviate? The wording leads to a little confusion.
5. Pursuers remain in contact with routing enemy and one base Impacts new enemy, which then dies in combat thus breaking the interception of the pursuit. We presumed this ended that combat and as the pursuers were still in contact with routers ??“ and passed their cohesion test that they carried on?
6. P.50 - A turn of 90 degrees cannot end with a frontage greater than the original depth, but can always be a minimum of one base? I know there has been some postings on this. Is this what is meant?
7. When can (cowardly) generals break off from a rout? After the initial rout move?
8. Bow armed Sipahi have no POA against Mob? They surely have a good chance of cutting straight through?
Odds and Ends
a. Should Theurophoroi be armed with javelins as well as spear?
b. Troops with flanks in the air, maybe 6 Mu`s away from all other friends be counted the same as if next to the table edge? I know this leads to a definition problem but would stop that isolated unit performing wonders and encourage most other troops to fight more closely alongside/touching friends.
c. Why are generals required to rally a Disrupted unit?
d. Linked with this then why shouldn??™t an outdistanced charge or scary evade move end with a Cohesion Test? Does it just make things too complicated?
e. Is 800 points too much to get a Decisive Victory in four hours of play? We have had serious combats and results without achieving anything more than Marginal Victory. We play pretty quickly with very little reference to the rules at all, it seems that base sitting is a viable option and that deployment should extend further onto the battlefield to allow the heavy foot to actually fight. This would also reward a good plan and aggressive tactics.
