Hello all, brand new to the forums and to FoG. I'm trying to decide on an army an had a question after looking through a few of the books. How do you use the 'allies' lists. For example, in the Oath of Fealty book, one of the army listings is: Communal Italian Allies. How would I get them on the board? Are they treated as a stand-alone army or would I need to have a differrent army on the board and bring them in as allies?

Thanks!

You need a "parent". Ally lists can only be used as part of other lists.

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm just trying to wrap my head around the game system, I've only seen it played but it looked pretty cool.

The main list needs to allow the ally. You then have to fulfill the min and max of both the main list and the ally list.
The allies are deployed as if they were part of the main army. Remembering that only the ally general can bolster your ally troops so you want to deploy him with them.

The Field of Glory website has a rankings & resource page

http://www.slithdata.net/files/fog/rankings.html

the resource menu on the top left includes a link to an allies cross-reference table (PDF), which lists the armies that can ~use~ particular allies. It will save you searching through the army list books for the armies that list a particular ally

http://www.fieldofglory.com/file/ally_list6.pdf

For instance. An Italian Communual ally can be used by an Italian Communual army (why? probably, it's the only way to get a fourth general), Italian Papal army, Later Sicilian army or Imperial German army (in Italy)

Thanks!

Hey peteratjet, thanks for the further breakdown of the allies interfacing with armies.
