Hi all, out of curiosity, are there any existing 15mm Hungarian usable for Renaissance?
If not, what would you use as proxy ?

If this is any help, here is a list of the figures I used for my Hungarian/Transylvanian army, circa 1633:

All catalogue numbers are Essex.

2 units of 4 bases of Dragoons (Essex RPP17 & RPP17a)

4 units of 4 bases of Light Horse ( Figures 16 x RPP16, 8 x RPP12 and 8 x RPP13)

4 units of mercenary pike and shot, each having 4 bases of shot and 2 bases of pikemen (Essex REN5 (muskets with rest, firing), REN29 (pikes), REN16 (standard bearers)).

2 units of 4 bases of cuirassiers. (REN 67)

3 units of 4 bases of Szeklers. (20 x RPP19b, 8 x RPP19 and 8 x RPP19a).

1 unit of 4 bases of Viteji. (8 x RPP16, 4 x RPP13)

1 unit of 4 bases of Boyars – heavily armoured gendarmes. (REN69)

2 Medium artillery bases (guns RXE4 , crew RR1)

2 units of 6 bases of Haiduk LF with musket. (Mixture of 16 x RPP2 and 8 x RNC9)

4 command bases (2 bases drawn from REN 98 +REN 99, 2 bases each from REN72a.)

Thanks, it sure helps :). Did you feel you couldn't go without the German mercenaries?

Yes.

Although writing the above post has inspired me to get 3 units of 6 bases of MF Haiduks painted up.

(No self control)

Current plan (at 900 points) is to use 4 BGs of pike & shot and 2 BGs of MF Haiduks. (Note that, as has been pointed out, the points cost for the Average MF Haiduks is incorrect in the list table - it should be 8, not 7).

For what it is worth, these are the (Essex) figures I will be using:

RPP2, RPP4, RNC8, RNC9, RNC12

Note that the higher RNC numbers are not listed on the Essex web page listing, but photographs of them can be seen by clicking on one of the lower RNC numbers.

Looks like your first list is at least 900pts right? (unless i din't check the army book correctly).
What would you reduce to get an 800pts Hungarian working list?
Maybe one less gendarme? I'm not used building fog;Renaissance lists really :)

Considerably more than 900. I wanted to get enough figures to be able to vary it.

A lot, sadly.

Here is one version of an 800 points list, but the list allows a lot of variation. Note that 1 BG of boyars (gendarmes or cavaliers), 1 of viteji, 2 of hussars and 1 of Szeklers/veteran hussars are compulsory. (Though the latter can be fielded as LH if preferred).

Apologies for the (lack of) formatting:

Thanks for the list and the essex references of your additional troops.
Looks like this list profits from a good amount of mercenaries :)

I have ordered 3 units of 6 MF Haiduks, painted and based. Which pleases my wife as it sorts out my Christmas present. :)

Cavalry (however classified) are not going to achieve much against a solid line of enemy pike and shot. Conversely MF musketeers are vulnerable against enemy horse. Having your own pike and shot is safer and less dependent on terrain.

I am hoping that a mixture of pike & shot BGs and MF musket/sword BGs will be even better if used skilfully. (And therein lies the difficulty).

(I decided not to get any Dorobanti as they seem to me to be neither fish nor fowl).

...ordered...painted and based

I'm suffering from the now well known "pile of lead" syndrome and should probably start to use this option too...
if used skilfully
That's the part where i often fail when using "rogue" lists...doesn't prevent me from having a good fun trying though...
I'm going to keep the idea of 4 units of pk and shots for other lists using a lot of either pure MF musket or warrior
bow*/musket, impact foot, swordmen units.
