MP Hotseat = Whose turn?

This is my first time trying to play a hotseat game......so I'm probably missing something obvious:
I understand that:
1) I added the "ALLOWMPHOTSEAT 1" to the user.txt
2) I created a MP game w/password...and accepted it.
But how do you tell whose turn it is without launching and seeing the opponents pieces (if you accidentally launch out of turn)?
Or is this feature just designed for 1 person playing both sides, rather than 2 people playing on the same pc?
thanks.

Just load the game up, all you will see is the starting position, then you can turn away when the other person is done, it is your turn and just rotate.. not that hard to keep track

Heh..you are thinking that we are sitting together passing it back and forth.
How about the situation where you are on the pc....do your move....and the other person comes by at a later time to do theirs (like online multiplayer). It would be nice to know whose turn it is without seeing each others pieces.

heh.. well in that case i guess you are just going to have to draw lines on a notepad or something, or you can always buy 2 copies of the game and then you won't have a problem

Hmm..if thats the only option then we'll give it a go with the manual verbal "your turn" method.
If the wife likes playing I guess we'll consider buying another copy....(she kicks my butt in Memoir 44...so u never know)
If Slitherine decide to throw up a "Allied Turn" (or axis) splash screen when launching then that would be even better....for my wallet.

You can see whose turn it is at the bottom of the screen in the middle. Note when loading a turn it always plays the opposing forces replay so if it shows teh German flag it means it is the Allied turn, as you watch the German turn before it gets to your turn.
Hotseat was an options we had not planned on so had to be "hacked in" and is not robustly supported currently.

I'm glad you added it - that is critical to my buy decision so the kids can sit at the same PC and play. It also allows "spy plane" - where one gets to watch a selected turn in a game over the other's shoulder.
It's also useful for scenario testing.

Once France is out and bedded in, then I will be looking at the features for the next update. They have been coming at a pretty hectic rate and so we might take a moment to get some of the tougher features in (I'll get up a roadmap once we have discussed it).
But adding the current side in the MP game display is pretty simple, so I guess that was a long way of saying "Yes, the side name will be in the next update"!

no.. sorry pip you misunderstood me! probanly my wording lol!

i meant will HOTSEAT official be available in a coming update ?( even to buy! ... i'd buy it !! 5 quid for the official patch) .. if not , where do we install the above patch thang to?

.. ps absolutely LOVING this game .. i'm ditching all my old games even asl !! your ongoing commitment to the whims of us nonbotheraboutable types is AWESOME!! game gets 9 1/2 out of 10...10 when mp random or choosable forces come out... 11 when random forces are a feature in skirmish! thanx for making such a fun game

Hi bones65
Do you mean how to play hotseat? To do that add the following to your user.txt file, which can be found in your ..\My Documents\My Games\BBCBA folder (see original post) ...
If you are updating the user.txt file you might want to also include, if you haven't already got them ...
Code: Select all
// Unlimited zoom
NOZOOMLIMIT 1
// Stops screen shaking during bombardment
NOSHAKING 1
Cheers

Copy and paste his text or type it in like you did, then save.
Start your game, create a MP challenge with a password (something simple) and then accept the challenge yourself.

A lot of those are playtesting a turn or two and exit or editing a map. Right now the numbers don't mean anything. Every time you start the game I think it adds to the counter.
I'm unemployed at the moment so the games keep me busy. The wife is usually next to me on her computer playing a game on Facebook so I get a pass.

it still won't allow me to accept challenge

.. do i have to move the user text to another folder or something? .. i even put a 1 next to the hotseat text in 'tweaks' , but it still made no difference.. i had NOZOOMLIMIT already in user text by the way.

No it stays in the BBCBA folder.
Mine has
NOZOOMLIMIT 1
ALLOWMPHOTSEAT 1
Did you spell it correctly with all caps? Is the MP between ALLOW and HOTSEAT?
