New Evade questions 1.35

I upgraded to 1.35 this weekend and had two games going on. The following incidents were observed:

1) Lancers charged LH. LH were 3 hexes away from board edge. The charge was such that the LH should evade straight back and thus go off board. Instead they moved to board edge and then turned and went 2 hexes along board edge. This occured twice in this game.

The rules say evades should be straight away from the charger. Has anything changed in 1.35?

2) Two enemy LF average crossbows were in mele contact with friendly LF poor javelins. A friendly HF BG charged one of the LF crossbows. The crossbow LF evaded. I did not think that troops in mele could evade?

The evade does not always seem to be straight back particularly around the board sides rather than the baseline.

My understanding is imperfect but I suspect the other situation was that the troops adjacent had probably only just been contacted and were not yet in melee.
e.g.1 Your LF charges 2 LF neither evade but you can only melee one. You then charge the second non-meleed unit with your HF it can and probably will evade.
e.g.2 Your LF moves into contact wth an enemy LF in pursuit. If you do not melee the enemy LF before charging it with another unit it may evade.

These are the only circumstances where I have seen LF/LH or other evade capable units adjacent to an enemy unit evade.
